Quick!!! Grab your 2009 Diary or Calendar now!

Finally my 2009 diary and calendars are listed on my site. Things have been a little hectic the last month, with the craft fair and work, but I've finally had the time to list some new things in the shop.

Check out the official Fur Will Fly diary - full of fun photos of my plushies! The diary opens out with a week to view, and each week has it's own photo to keep you amused all year round. Nearly all the plushies in my shop are featured in there somewhere, so you'll never get bored.

I've also got wall and desk calendars for sale!

Happy Guy Fawkes Night UK!

Happy Bonfire Night everyone - hope you've all been enjoying the fireworks. I did plan on taking Tigsy to see some last weekend, but it was a bit wet in the end.

Maybe next year.....

Feature Creature 4

This week it is...............

..................THE LOVEBOT!!

This cute little purple robot has a lot of love to give.

He shows you just how much he loves you using the Love-o-meter on his tummy!

Even his eye is heart-shaped.

Best suited to: big softies, lonely people in need of some love. He also makes a great gift for your life buddy!

Feature Creature 3

The lucky plushie this week is.................

.................VAMPLUSH THE VAMPIRE!

Arch-nemesis of Plushie the Vampire Slayer. Legend in his own right. This is Vamplush the Vampire. He may look harmless but those fangs can really do some damage. Well, they could do, but old Vamplush has given up the biting game and prefers just to sup on a glass of warm blood before bedtime. If you ask me, he's gone a bit soft since he watched an episode of Angel.

Best suited to: horror fans, people who wear a lot of black, creatures of the night.

Find Vamplush the Vampire in my shop!

Feature Creature 2

Feature Creature number 2 is............

.................FRANKENSTEIN'S PLUSH MONSTER!

With halloween approaching I thought he would be an appropriate choice!
.
We all know that mad scientist Frankenstein created a giant 8 foot monster with a bolt through his neck, but did you know that he also created a plush version, probably to cuddle up to in bed?
.
No? Well he did! Frankenstein's Plush Monster may measure only 10" tall, but he's just as menacing as the real thing. Of course it turned out that he wasn't really that menacing at all, just misunderstood (Go read the book!)

Best suited to: horror fans, people who wear a lot of black, mad scientists.
.
Find Frankenstein's Plush Monster in my shop. Also, he has posed for a greetings card.

Bye Bye Summer!

We've had a rubbish summer overall in the UK, but September and October have had some gorgeous sunny days, although I think that is pretty much all over now. OK it does look sunny outside as I'm typing this, but by the fact that my hands are so cold they're going numb, I'd say it doesn't exactly feel warm out there!

Well to make the most of these warm Autumn days we took Tigsy on a few days out to the South Coast. He even fitted in a spot of sunbathing at Camber Sands. I'd never been there before and was surprised at what a lovely sandy beach it was, especially as Hastings just down the road is just pebbles (although I'm not knocking Hastings!).

As I predicted, some of the other plushies are a little jealous of Tigsy because he's always off visiting new places, so Goldie came along to Camber Sands too. She used to go everywhere with me when I was little and I think she was feeling a bit left out (although she has pride of place at home).

Another day we had a drive to Rye Harbour and did a spot of blackberry picking. You should have seen the state of Tigsy once he'd finished! Luckily I had wet wipes to hand.

It's horrible to think that we have to wait about 5 months now for some warm weather, but I guess there are some benefits to winter
- I get to wear a coat (I love coats!)
- some good photo opportunities
- mulled wine
- evenings snuggled up in the warm on the sofa
- um, that's about it......
.
Bye Bye Summer, I'll miss you!

Feature Creature

This weeks feature creature from my shop is..........

.............SIZABLE STOMACH!

Who ate all the pies? Who ate all the pies? Sizable Stomach did I'm afraid. Every last one of them. And he loved it.

He may be a little overweight, constantly hungry and a stranger to exercise, but that doesn't make him a bad plushie does it?

With Christmas approaching he'd make a great gift, but be warned that you'll probably need to buy a bigger turkey!

Best suited to: Well, with a diet imminent, maybe a fellow dieter or someone who has recently lost weight. He definitely needs a diet buddy! Or perhaps someone who has gone through, or about to go through, some sort of stomach surgery?

Tigsy Ventures Abroad

So to continue the summer adventures of Tigsy the Tiger-Moose; after a short nights sleep in Portsmouth Tigsy was up and about early ready to catch the 3 hour ferry to France. He managed a little nap on board and kept himself amused by reading his French phrasebook and looking out the window.

Once settled into the gite Tigsy soon adapted to the laid back French way of life, and tucked into many a croissant, pain au chocolat, baguette and stinky cheese. He soon developed a taste for the French wine too! Not speaking much French, Tigsy found it quite tough when out and about, but he did manage to visit some sites. He enjoyed a trip to a Chateau and a Tank Museum.

The highlight of his holiday was absolutely the trip to the zoo. Tigsy loved the giraffes and thought they looked even stranger than he does!
Tigsy was quite sad when the 2 weeks in france were over, but he did have one last adventure - the trip home was on an aeroplane! He was scared to begin with but by the time he had got used to being in the air, it was time to land. Back home again.

Back from America

The Etsy Plush Street Team that I a member of, recently had a pitch at a huge craft fair in Chicago. Unfortunately it was a very wet weekend so sales weren't quite as good as predicted, but many plushies still found new homes. Here they are on display at Renegade Chicago:

I sent 10 plushies over for the event and 2 of them sold, which I was very happy with. The others were sent back to me and arrived yesterday. They were so excited about their big adventure and couldn't wait to tell the others all about it! But not until they had one last group hug in the box they'd called home for the last week!

Mad Scientists of Etsy - Team Challenges

One of the Etsy teams I am a member of is called the Mad Scientists of Etsy (MSOE) and as the name suggests, it is made up of scientists who are also crafters. There are over 100 members now, and we make a huge range of different items; from plush to jewellery, photography to toiletries, and everything in between!

There is a link to the new team website and blog on the sidebar of this page if you would like to learn more about us. Just search for 'msoe team' or 'msoeteam challenge' under the tags section on the Etsy website for our items.

Every month we vote on a team challenge topic and so far I have managed to conjure up an entry for each one (although Octobers is looking unlikely - the topic is geothermal!).

These have been my entries so far:

April - Science as Art: 'On the Origin of Plush...'

May - Organic Chemistry: Carbon Coasters and Carbon Canvas

June - Leonardo da Vinci: 'The Vitruvian Plush' and 'The Vitruvian Plush Canvas'

July - Platypus: 'Purple Pete the Plush Platypus'

August - Microbiology: 'Plush Red and White Blood Cells'

September - Nicholas Copernicus: 'I Am Copernicus'

Don't forget to look at other member's challenge entries too!

Tigsy Does Portsmouth!

During the Summer Tigsy was lucky enough to go on 2 holidays! One of those began with a sunny afternoon in Portsmouth and an overnight stay in a hotel, ready for an early morning ferry to France.

We started out with a trip up the Spinnaker tower, a 170m building overlooking Portsmouth harbour. Tigsy was amazed by the great views, and he was even brave enough to walk over the glass floor!
He also made a new friend here called Spinny, a plush version of the Spinnaker tower (what a cool idea!), who joined him on the rest of the holiday.

It was an early night back at the hotel, ready for the adventures to come on Tigsy's first trip abroad! More to follow soon........

It's hard to say goodbye

I have to confess that when I first started making plushies to sell on Etsy, I wasn't totally convinced I could actually part with them! Generally once something has a face and a name, that's it, they're with me for life. Somehow I've managed to get over this and am happy sending my plushies off to a better life. After all, most of them are jetting off to America, and having much more fun than they would sitting on a shelf in Kent.
.
Although, every now and then, I list something that I'm secretly hoping won't sell and I'll have to keep forever! Sadly those plushies nearly always sell immediately, and our time together is cut short.

The plushie I've been most sad to see leave so far was Lionel the Leopard-Pig - I really had grown quite fond of him, with his cute little face and funny little tail. He flew off on his big adventure to America, and it was really tough for us left behind. However, it was all made a little more bearable when his new owner left feedback saying how much she adored him -that makes it all worthwhile!

Hope you're having fun out there Lionel!

Tigsy Wins Gold!

Tigsy decided to try his hand, or rather his feet, at running an organised race the other evening. It was a tough course, and he was the only plushie participant. He didn't quite manage the whole 5km course, but was very proud of himself nonetheless. He even won a medal!

The Usual Plushpects!

Four Naughty Plushies. One Line Up . No Coincidence.

Here is my latest creation of Plush Art. Based on the famous 'Usual Suspects' scene, this is a line up with a difference! Which one do you think is the guilty plushie?

Discovering Etsy

I remember our first encounter like it was yesterday, those first hours spent together when everything was exciting and new....and it's still pretty damn great now! I'm talking about Etsy of course, and I'm sure most of you are already well acquainted. However, if you're not yet familiar with the site, please follow this link to find out more:

When I first started making plushies I planned to sell them on eBay, since I've already sold half my worldly goods on there, but I soon discovered that it wouldn't be as easy as I thought. There didn't seem to be a market for handmade goods on there, especially not toys. Most buyers (me included) have got that 'boot-fair attitude' too, where they want to pay 20p for everything and won't part with a decent sum of money.
.
So I found Etsy by searching on eBay, because someone selling handmade toys had a link to her Etsy shop. I soon discovered just how great Etsy was, and was so excited to open my shop and make my first sales!

Tigsy in the Big City!

Tigsy kept me company on a very important trip to London yesterday, but I made sure we had time to take a walk along the River Thames. It was his first train journey too, and he especially enjoyed having his own seat!

We walked quite a way along the river, taking in all the famous buildings and sites - past the Globe theatre and the Clink prison, on to the London Eye and a view of the Houses of Parliament.

There was a bit of a tantrum when Tigsy realised we weren't actually going on the London Eye, but I've promised him a trip on it one day soon!
