Tuesday Tunes

I have the TrackID app on my mobile phone which comes in so handy to find out what song is playing on that advert or radio station, and I thought I'd use my saved songs list to pick something for this week's song. I can't remember when I heard this one, but I think it must have been when I was listening to Kerrang radio (the only station I really ever listen to, except Classic FM in the bath!).

Tuesday Tunes

I'm choosing this week's song based mainly on the video - I happened to see it on a music channel while flicking through them the other day, and thought it was brilliant. The song isn't too bad either.

Tuesday Tunes

While flicking through Twitter the other day I was so surprised to read that the album Ether Song by Turin Brakes was now 10 whole years old! It's strange because that time of my life is made so incredibly clear whenever I play it. I remember buying it from Sainsbury on my way to work (I worked nights back then), and being so excited about playing it as soon as I got home the next morning. And I still love playing it just as much now. But 10 years though! And it still has the label on!!

This is one of my favourites from the album, Average Man.

I can't even begin to describe how much I love this guy's music and voice. This is taken from the debut solo album of Olly Knights from Turin Brakes. I could literally listen to him sing all day every day. I thought his solo songs would just sound like another Turin Brakes album, but I was wrong. It was recorded at his house on an 8 track reel and the sound is just breathtaking. It is like he is playing right in the room with you, and sharing something very personal. If you like the sound, I recommend watching the documentary If Not Now When so you can see how it was made, and be as blown away by it all as I was.

There is just something so beautiful about this melody............

Tuesday Tunes

The last couple of months has been tough as I am currently job hunting (and not finding). Music and photography have really been helping me get through it though, and the album that has calmed me down from all the stress the most has been Alt-J, An Awesome Wave. I first heard of them when they were nominated for the Mercury Music Prize, which they went on to win, and as soon as I heard a few clips on Amazon I was pretty sure I'd like them. Turns out I was wrong - I totally love this album! It really is a rare find to love an album in its entirety, and I nearly always play it all the way through. The only other album I feel this way about is my old favourite My Vitriol, Finelines. The track I'd like to share with you today is Something Good. I recommend watching it purely for the beautiful photography.......

Tuesday Tunes - the return!

I've really been getting back into music this last year, so I want to continue my Tuesday Tunes and share all my favourites and any new discoveries. Today's song comes from the album 'Seven Rainbows' by Alice Gold. It had been on my Amazon wishlist for some time, and I finally took the plunge. And yes, I did buy the actual CD. There is just something so much more satisfying about finding a good new album if you actually have it in your hands. I don't buy all my music on CD by any means, but after my '30 before 30' project when I made an effort to discover new music on CD every month, I do buy them when I'm pretty sure I'll love them! This one even had the lyrics printed in the sleeve (sorry to everyone who hears me singing along). And now, on to the music............

I've only listened to the album once through, but it really is pretty good. Reminds me a bit of Bat for Lashes, Marina and the Diamonds and The Pierces. Well worth a listen if you like this sort of thing. And, apparently, she lives on a narrowboat!

Tuesday Tunes

I've been rocking out lately, and this track on the end credits of Avengers Assemble caught my ears. I actually quite enjoyed the film, even though I'm not really one for Superhero films generally. I do have a soft spot for Iron Man though - thought the first Iron Man film was brilliant (the second one not so much). Decided he is absolutely the best one of the Avengers - he can fly, is strong, incredibly clever, witty, and has a very cool outfit/suit. Thor is pretty useful with that controlling the weather mojo too. Anyways, I'm rambling on. Here is the music.........

Tuesday Tunes (on a Wednesday again)

When this song was on the Dior perfume advert last Christmas I was always singing along, so I just had to download it. And it's even better when you hear the whole song. Enjoy!

And for those of you who prefer a more upbeat sound, here is the Calvin Harris dance remix. I prefer the original myself.

An old favourite today. I love the lyrics, and pretty much everything about it. I remember it was used in Cruel Intentions too, which I thought was a great film at the time. Maybe I should watch it again......
